Since her retirement as a teacher, Sally's largest impact to the community would be found in the shadows of the Shortsville Manchester Area Chamber of Commerce bank account and accounting practices. Serving as Treasurer till her death, Mom was famous for giving as brief of financial report as possible. It was questioning by her son Matt a few years ago, who also serves on the Chamber, as to how profits were consistently being realized on events he oversaw, that should (at best) break even that uncovered the generous truth: when expenses were submitted and reimbursed, Mom would then make a deposit to cover that expense. The events and activities provided by or sponsored by the Chamber were in fact, heavily subsidized by one teacher and her retirement check.
When a brief discussion came up about the need to find storage space for community groups such as the Chamber of Commerce, Wild Water Derby, Lehigh Valley Snow Riders, Lions Club and others, Mom attempted several times to cover 100% of the cost and was willing to pay more than the anticipated public bid because “she wanted to help.”
